ROCKS! ROCKS! ROCKS!
The Living Rock Studios is primarily made of concrete, local agates, petrified wood and flagstone. It has been estimated that the massive building contains over 800 tons of rock. The inside walls are decorated with lava shale, sandstone, obsidian, quartz and agate specimens. The central pillar to the building is in the shape of a tree. Known as the “Tree of Life”, it stands two stories high, with branches that extend up to support the ceiling. The tree was built with an outer layer of petrified wood. The core of the tree was lined with an assortment of crystals. Rocks were not only used in the construction of the studios, but were also placed throughout the building. Rocks, such as iceland, spur and naterlite, were encased in jars and embedded within the walls.
